Zambia
Amrita Dhammika co-founded the Tithandizane Primary Health Care Project in Zambia 1998. When the project began it had nothing, but with steady input of work by local people and grants from various charitable trusts and other bodies, it now has grown so that it has five large buildings. The project continues, ably managed by John Zulu. The project aims to empower the local people to go beyond the scourge of poverty and AIDS. These incorporate a treatment centre, hostel, skills workshop and community hall. A government nurse provides basic medical services whilst the project itself offers health support and community activities.
