Vietnam
In September 2004 Amida Trust launched its new Buddhist voluntary service overseas scheme. The Nirvana Pagoda is home to many orphans and poor children. Many of them become monks and nuns later on in life while others become lay devotees and start a family. This Pureland temple opens Its doors to the poor and disadvantaged Vietnamese families and offers training in Buddhism, food and shelter. The children are looked after by the monks and nuns in a loving, caring and joyful atmoshpere. When Prasada and Dharmavidya visited this temple they were touched by the open atmosphere, happy and care- free children. Struck by the number of boys living there without proper accommodation, in 2004/5, Amida West raised money and helped construct a dormitory for the boys as the girls had raised enough money to build a dormitory on their own. The boys and girls love playing outside, running around, singing, colouring and doing all the things that most people do at a young age.
